How to Write a Good Press Release to Promote Your Business

Here are some great tips for content marketing on how press releases should be set-up. I've written quite a few press releases, but before I did, I attended webinars on how to get the best search engine rankings. I followed the instructions and to my amazement, the next day I was on the front page of "Yahoo News!"

It is critical for your short and long term success to find ways to generate more traffic to your business and website.

If you are on a tight budget, one good way to get free publicity for your business and get more traffic to your website is to create good press releases about something going on in your business and submit one at least once a month. When an agency posts your press release, you could receive hundreds and hundreds of hits in just a few days. This is a great strategy to build into your marketing. Although you will not receive thousands of hits to your website, the main benefit is that you will get links back to your site which can help you with your search engine rankings.

Here are 5 steps necessary to creating a good press release:

1. Identify your target market – Who are you talking to?
2. Determine what kind of media they read, watch or listen to
3. Find the niche that appeals to your market
4. Write the release according to the templates
5. Submit your release

In addition to the 5 steps above it is very critical that your press release include the following:

1. Headline: A strong captivating headline positioning good key words that relate to your business that focuses on “What’s In It For The Reader?”

The headline should grab the reader’s attention and be in bold type, capital letters, and double-spaced. The headline should summarize the entire press release in a brief, powerful sentence or phrase and lead the reader into the first paragraph.

2. First Paragraph: Now that you’ve captured the interest of the reader, you will want them to read the remainder of the press release. The first paragraph is the next strongest piece of information. This is a good place to focus on who, what, where, when and why.

3. Second and Third Paragraphs: These paragraphs are a great place to highlight a
quote from you written in a third party perspective as a recognized expert in your field. This also helps you establish credibility and authority in the marketplace and also lets the reader know why you are sending the release and why the reader should read it. A great way to do this is to take a position of controversy that the reader does not believe what you are saying, so you must prove it with your points supported by evidence. You may also want to include a quote from another person involved in the project or a testimonial quote from one of your customers on one of your products or services.

4. Final Paragraph: This paragraph is the “call to action.” This is where you want to
tell the reader what to do next. You should be specific, such as “Visit our site at:” “Call us to place your order” “For more information…..”
